Intelligent Specialisation has become one of the keys to diversification of economic and social development in European regions because it has its own characteristics, challenges and opportunities. The European Commission has insisted on the need to co-ordinate the execution of the RIS3 strategies bearing in mind the neighbouring regions to find synergies and develop complementarities enabling effective implementation of European funds together with a more integrated and co-ordinated development among neighbouring regions.
This is why the Commission encourages the development of specific inter-regional and transnational strategies among regions with common elements and whose implementation can be co-ordinated. Having detected the need to establish institutional co-operation mechanisms among all the agents involved in the regional RIS3 Strategies, this RIS3net project aims to develop and implement a common co-operation strategy and co-ordinated governance system together with the agents responsible for planning, execution and follow-up of intelligent specialisation strategies in the MAC regions.
